Tata Ronkholz
The most extensive series of works in Tata Ronkholz's œuvre consists of drinking establishments and kiosks, but also occasionally shop windows and interiors. She mainly sought out her motifs in Cologne and Düsseldorf as well as in the wider Ruhr region.
Two archive books in her estate provide information about the exact location of the Trinkhalle, very few of which still exist today. Over a period of eight years until 1984, the artist repeatedly devoted herself to this series of works.
With the “Trinkhalle”, Ronkholz also documented an important part of 20th century everyday culture in industrialized cities. Ronkholz herself commented on this:
„I wasn't interested in the social aspect or the design, but I felt
drawn to everyday life. I was drawn to everyday life. I wanted
to show the little shop around the corner in all its loveliness.”
